More unbelievable stupidity

Following up on my post the other day on stupidity, I had to add one more item. And I’m seeing so much stupid shit lately, I’ve decided it needs its own category.

This one is a doozy: It is, by my watch, the month of MAY. What do we have here? CHRISTMAS LIGHTS ON!!
I get you really think Christmas is awesome. And sure Christmas lights can look pretty sometimes. But, really, we’re just going to leave the lights on all year? WTF? Do we have endless amounts of money and a general hatred for the environment?

What is going on here?

Aaaargh!!

  1. I had to laugh at this, as we leave Christmas lights on at night in front of the barn all year long, as we need to be able to see that the horses are ok, and the strip of LED lights we bought light up the area wonderfully and are far cheaper than the traditional lighting that is outside at the barn. 🙂

You get a pass on this one, Laurie, since you have lights for a utilitarian purpose. That’s a lot different than decorating a house.

  2. Well, I guess I need to take mine down then. JK. I don’t even put lights on my house, but I know what you mean.

Yeah, I’ve never put lights up myself, either. Just can’t bring myself to do that to my electric bill.

      • I’m with you too. I leave that stuff up to the neighbors.

On a semi-related note, we have neighbors who have fancy outdoor lighting. Now, it would be bad if they left the lights on all night. However, some of them leave the lights on 24/7. The people behind us are the worst offenders. It gets even worse though since they have the old style bulbs. If they had LEDs, I’d still think it was ridiculous. but old school bulbs?!? GRRRRR!!!!

Don’t even get me started on the neighbors who leave their sprinkler systems on during rainstorms.

Oh yeah, the light in this picture are often on during the daytime. So lame! The sprinkler thing is a good one. I’ll have to keep my eye out for a picture of that. (That one can be little forgivable, however, because of automated systems.)

  3. Hahaha, that’s hilarious. gotta go baby making a run foR IT.

  4. Funny. But honestly, this year I put them down late too, because I was so lazy to do it. Maybe next year I’ll leave them on all year too, just turn the light off. LOL

Hey, as long as they’re not turned on and burning up your pretirement fund, leave them up for the rest of the decade! (:

  5. I like to think that more people are breaking the mold. Or maybe it’s just a case of groupthink. When I refuse to go out for lunch or coffee because I don’t want to spend money on it, I find some of my colleagues are also on board. I am also surprised as to how willing they are to chat about investing, retirement, and money management.

I’m sure a little peer pressure is helping, but I also find people are exhausted from trying to keep up with the system and are thirsty for an alternative. When they find others on the same page, the movement grows.

  6. Haha, Christmas lights on in May. A house in our neighborhood leaves them up year round, but luckily doesn’t turn them on until around Christmas time every year.

  7. Lol maybe the guy’s too lazy to take ’em off? Hey, I left my Xmas tree up until mid March. Friends walked into my house thinking I was crazy.

Leaving them up is fine, although pretty lazy. As long as you’re not turning them on during 86 degree days, you’re OK in my book!

You know you are serious frugal TYPE A when your neighbors wasteful habits start driving you crazy. I think we will all do okay as long as Obama doesn’t socialize our electrical bills by executive order like he did with healthcare.
